You already know what it looks like don’t you? You can see yourself standing there looking sexy as hell. The sideways glances, the turns of heads and the random compliments. In your head you know exactly how you want to look, but you don’t look that way right now though, do you? And, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to get it.
The truth is, you’re scared.
You can picture it. You know what you want, but you just don’t have the balls to go out there and get it. I don’t mean to sound cruel. I’m telling you that from a place of love, as someone who wants to see you get that body.
As a Trainer, I am sick of seeing people “talk” about it, but never following through or fixing things. But just calling you out on it, and not telling you what to do to fix it, would be unfair of me and I wouldn’t leave you hanging like that.
So if you want to get that body of your dreams, watch out for these common mistakes and learn what you can do to avoid them:
1. You don’t make it a priority
Your body is a full-time job. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to lose body fat and pack on a little more muscle or if you’re a serious athlete or bodybuilder. What goes on with your body must always be a priority, period. It’s more than just cutting carbs and training more. How you sleep, what you drink and when you train can all be factors in it.
If you really want to get on the right path, it’s time to put your body and your goals at the top of your priority list.
2. You try to do too much, too soon
Your approach to changing your body probably looks like this:
- Change your diet
- Change your weights routine
- Do more cardio
- Do more cardio
- Drink less alcohol
- Socialize less
And you try to do all these things at the same time. Going cold turkey on everything you’re doing right now is not exactly a recipe for success, is it?
Instead, you need to look at it as a long-term solution. Start by making the smallest change possible and then build on it. Don’t stop eating chocolate, start by eating less. Cut it by 50% each week, until you’re eating so little that it’s not even worth the effort. Cold turkey may occasionally work, but don’t bet your whole body on it.
3. You make it painful
Getting your dream body is hard work. There are going to be gym sessions that are tough. You’re going to hate walking down the stairs on some mornings, and at some point you might even puke. But none of that is bad.
The difference between you and the people with the body you want is this: mind-set. If you tell yourself you hate the workouts or that you don’t want to feel that way the next day, then you start to feel pain when you think about training. And, as a human, you never want to do the painful thing.
It’s time you start making it enjoyable then.
- Eat healthy meals while listening to your favourite music
- Reward yourself after a hard workout
- Measure how much, and when, your body changes
- Write down why you’re doing it each day
Once you start to make the gym or dieting more pleasurable for yourself, the more likely you are to succeed.
