5 Ways To De-Stress In Less Than 5 Minutes

Stress has become a common part of life. And, with good reason, there are so many things you could be doing, with not enough time to do them.

But being constantly stressed isn’t good for you.

It can cause: weight gain, anxiety, depression and other health issues.

And, it doesn’t feel too great either, does it?

You’ve probably come up with a few reasons as to why you can’t relax, as well: too little time, too little energy, too many things to do, and too much to think about just to name a few.

Which, may be valid to an extent, they are all just limiting beliefs. It’s important for you to make time for you. To step away from the situations you’re in and give yourself a break.

But, I think you’re right; time is tight.

That’s why I’ve come up with an abundance of ways for you to remove that unwanted stress in five minutes or less.

1. Meditate

You might think meditation is a load of Buddhist mumbo jumbo, but it’s a great way to unwind and release some of that unwanted stress.

Here’s a simple method I use personally:

  • Step One: Find a quiet spot, away from excessive noise
  • Step Two: Sit upright, but not tensed
  • Step Three: Set an alarm on your phone for at least 15 minutes away
  • Step Four: Close your eyes
  • Step Five: Focus on breathing in through your nose, and out through your mouth
  • Step Six: Don’t think about your problems, just let your mind wander

2. Go For A Walk

If you have a dog or just live near a local park, go for a stroll. And instead of thinking about you need to do before when you get back – just focus on the walk.

Listen to the birds singing, the wind blowing, the dogs and children playing.

Think only about what you’re doing right now. That is, having an important moment alone.

3. Listen To Classical Music

This is an old trick. Find a quiet spot and put in your headphones. Next, close your eyes and listen away.

Focus only on the music, and not the nagging thoughts in the back of your mind and feel your problems melt away.

4. Visualization

Picture yourself in a place away from your stresses and troubles. See yourself walking down the beach of a desert island, taking a cable car ride across the top of the mountains or just see yourself sitting on your sofa, with your feet up.

Find a place you can escape to for a couple of minutes where the world can’t get to you.

5. Turn Off Your Phone

Do it. Step away from Facebook, text messages and Twitter. And, turn off those pesky emails for a couple of minutes, too.

Stepping away from the constant feeling of being pulled in numerous directions can have an incredible impact on how much stress you feel.

Turn it off and step away from the computer for a couple of minutes, too.

You’ll come back with a much clearer head.
