7 Reasons to Workout in the Morning!

One of my favorite childhood memories is the summers I spent at Girl Scout camp taking part in the Polar Bear Club.

This entailed getting up at 6:30 AM and swimming across the lake and back before breakfast. (This was in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts, which truly did feel arctic in a bathing suit at the crack of dawn – hence the name.)

The payoff came in my feeling of achievement – and the recognition from my counselors and peers – for being so hardcore.

Here’s 7 Good Reasons To Workout In The Morning:

1. ‘Early to Bed and Early to Rise Makes a Man Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise’

Tap into Ben Franklin’s famous wisdom.

I’ve found this to be very true in my life.

When I stay up late, I’m not writing the Great American Novel or perfecting my piano sonatas. I’m eating peanut butter from the jar and watching Friends re-runs.

Really, nothing good does happen after 2 AM…or in my case, 9 PM. (I’m old).

2. The morning air and light is invigorating.

I could write a book about my love of how I feel in the morning.

The stillness as few cars drive on the street, the fresh dew, the dawning light, the cool, fresh air as I inhale each breath…

….the feeling of opportunity that comes from a whole day ahead that’s mine to define.

3. Feel taut all day!

I love how when I walk around the rest of the day my muscles feel tight.

That tingling feeling of yeah… I got good work done this morning. Can’t beat it!

4. Feel like a total badass.

Go ahead – feel a little superior to those mere mortals who slept in.

Casually drop into conversation that you run at 5am.

Automatic badass status.

5. Set the tone for the whole day.

Habit is a powerful force.

When you work out first thing, you tell your brain, “I’m the kind of person who is committed/healthy/strong.”

Now you’re more likely to eat well the rest of the day.

6. Scheduling conflicts are unlikely to arise in the early hours

…compared to the afternoon or evening.

This means fewer excuses to not getting your sweat sesh in!

7. Challenges throughout the day feel surmountable.

Suddenly it’s easier to withstand the setback at work, the fight with the significant other, or the whiny toddler.

Exercise gives you a feeling of calm.

Go for it!!
